Who should do it?


The registration must be requested by any person living in Spain as they are obliged to register in the register of the municipality where they usually reside.

The Census is an administrative registry that is used by municipalities to maintain an updated database on who resides in the municipalities. The registry informs about the inhabitants who currenthy live in the city to guarantee access to public services and to calibrate their offer.

If you are a non – european foreigner, it is a mandatory  document to apply for TIE and it is essential to present it at the “fingerprinting” appoinment . Therefore, you must obtain the registration form before going to the appointment. 

How to request it?

Request and appoinment with the Madrid City council, you can do it online or by calling 010.

In case of making the appoinment online, simply indicate as “Type of service” to “Attention to citizenship”, then in “Management” the option “Register” and finally choose the office closest to your home.

Documents to present:

*Residence Card or Passport – Valid documents that prove identity (original Passport and copy of the student visa or TIE if it was).

*Current rental contract.

*The last receipt of rent paid (wich consist of information on the actors: landlord, tenant, address of residence, date of payment, etc.) or proof of payment of the deposit if you have just signed the contract and still do not have a receipt paid.

*Fill out and take the Registration Aplication.
